Motaz Alhroob - success story

2016-05-05

Motaz Alhroob, an ambitious young man from Hebron, was facing difficulty finding a stable job. Having graduated as a civil engineer, he felt most vacancies required certain skills and tasks that he didn’t have yet as a fresh graduate. “I believe that in the private and public sector you have to be unique and stand out to be able to succeed,” he says.

Motaz started searching for opportunities that would expand his experience and provide him with the needed skills and knowledge, when he came across the Construction Management Program (CMP), implemented by Palestine Education For Employment (PEFE) in cooperation with the Engineers Association, and funded by Asfari Foundation. “When I saw the advertisement of the training, I felt like that was exactly what I needed at that point, so I applied.”

The CMP training was implemented as part of a series of trainings that aim to enhance the knowledge and technical skills of engineering graduates, and provide them with suitable training that prepares them to enter the job market. It is comprised of 50 hours of Workplace Success, and 120 training hours in nine technical modules in the field of CMP.

Motaz was able to develop his understanding of how to prepare and what to expect in job interviews through Workplace Success training. “During the training, I learned the purpose of the commonly asked questions, and had the chance to participate in job- interview simulation and peer-evaluation. After the training I felt well-equipped and prepared for job interviews” Motaz says.

Upon completing the CMP, Motaz applied to a job-opening at the Jericho Governorate. “The interviewer inquired regarding projects’ budgets and variation order, which are topics that the CMP training covered and I was prepared to discuss. The case studies in the training enabled me to answer the questions.”

Motaz succeeded at the interview and was appointed as a Civil Engineer in the Project Development Department at the Jericho Governorate. The CMP training reflected positively on him as he began working for the governorate. “The technical skills I acquired in budgeting, cost leveling, and contracting, proved to be useful assets to me when writing reports and preparing estimated budgets in my new job.”

Currently Motaz is pursuing a Master’s degree in Engineering Management, and is considering pursuing a PhD later. He also aspires to continue growing and developing in his field of work and advance in his career. “I recommend the CMP training to fresh graduates because it provides new insight and a wider range of opportunities,” says Motaz.
